Exploring Remote vs. In-Person Coding Careers (Course Report Interview)
Two Tech Elevator graduates, DJ Litts and Shane Smith, recently met with the Course Report team to discuss coding careers in different work environments. Dj works in-person at JPMorgan Chase, and Shane works remotely at First National Bank of Omaha (FBNO).
Throughout the recorded interview, they answered questions about their experiences as former computer science students, then bootcamp students, and now professional software developers. The interview goes deep into their perspectives on the benefits and challenges of working on remote and in-person software development teams.
Dj initially preferred remote work but now appreciates the benefits of in-person collaboration, including easier communication, strong team relationships, and networking opportunities.
Shane, who originally wanted an in-office role, found remote work challenging at first due to limited direct interactions, but now values the flexibility, lack of commute, and ability to focus.
No matter how you work as a software developer, or in any other tech role, both grads emphasized the importance of finding mentorship, building your problem-solving skills, and the power of continued networking for career growth.
