Career Growth in Tech: Top Takeaways from Tech Elevator’s 2024 Alumni Report

Alumni stories are more than just success tales. They help us understand the ever-changing tech landscape. When we conduct our annual alumni surveys, we’re looking for updates, feedback, and insights into our grads’ experiences on the job and in the tech industry. Their feedback fuels our commitment to continuous improvement, ensuring that we adapt and mold our full-time and part-time coding programs to the current landscape, as well as to the future.

Let’s explore the top insights gleaned from Tech Elevator’s 2024 Alumni Survey, which paints a picture of career growth and long-term success across industries.

Top Alumni Survey Insights

One of the most compelling results from our survey is the trajectory of our alumni’s career growth – 56% of respondents have been promoted since graduation.

This all starts with preparing for the first tech job, and 80% of respondents indicated that our built-in Career Services/Job Application Support system “well prepared” or “very well prepared” them for their initial role after graduating. This type of careful planning and support can lead to securing not only a first job but also building the necessary career readiness skills for a successful tech career.

As alumni move through their careers, they see steady income increases. According to survey results (including people who graduated between 2016-2024), Tech Elevator graduates are earning an average salary of $90,483. This signifies the tangible benefits of investing in your education and the financial possibilities within the tech industry.

And beyond financial security, it’s important to note that 85% of survey respondents indicated being satisfied with their current roles. We love hearing that our graduates are enjoying the tech careers they worked hard to achieve!

An Involved Alumni Community, Interested in Helping Others

The desire for engagement is evident in this year’s survey responses. Alumni expressed interest in meetups, tech-related events, mentoring bootcamp students, and participating in Q&A panels. The interest in helping others as they go through career changes remains strong.

Desire for Lifelong Learning & Soft Skills

As the tech landscape continues to evolve, so do the needs of our alumni. Alumni expressed an interest in lifelong learning, including ways to stay updated on new technologies and evolving tech skills like artificial intelligence, machine learning, cloud computing, data science, blockchain, and quantum computing. They also express interest in navigating the intricacies of soft skills that are highly valued on the job, including communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
