How to Upskill Employees: Leveraging Government Funding for Tech Training
Companies of all sizes and across industries need highly trained, skilled professionals to meet growing tech demands, including creating and maintaining software. Upskilling your current workforce is a proven way to fill tech skills gaps, remain competitive in the marketplace, and build a rich company culture.
If you’re a leader looking for how to upskill employees, consider government-funded programs that aim to boost local, state-wide, and national workforces. By leveraging government-funded programs, you can provide your employees with new opportunities, improve your teams, and stay competitive.
How Tech Elevator Works with Government-Funded Programs
We’re proud to work with government-funded programs that help companies and individuals create and develop the technology skills needed for exciting careers in software development.
Currently, here are three regional ways we do that:
Ohio TechCred
We’re an approved Ohio TechCred training provider. Employers across Ohio can register with TechCred and receive full reimbursement for their employees to attend our full-time or part-time coding bootcamps. The employer must be based in Ohio and the employee must be an Ohio resident. Through our bootcamps, these employees can become full-stack software developers who return to their teams with new skills and a new way to approach and solve the company’s challenges.
Philadelphia Alliance for Capital and Technologies (PACT)
PACT, an organization that supports growth and innovation in Philadelphia and the surrounding region, recently partnered with Apprenti to create a unique program called Apprenti PHL with the goal of “bolstering apprenticeship programs across Pennsylvania, specifically focusing on empowering underrepresented individuals.” The program is a 15-month apprenticeship that fosters growth, learning, and training for those interested in software analysis, web development, cybersecurity, and business analysis. Tech Elevator serves as a web development training provider for Apprenti PHL.
Ohio Means Jobs
We’re on the educational training provider list for Ohio Means Jobs, which provides training opportunities for Ohio-based individuals and companies. Individuals can use reskilling funds through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). For companies, Ohio Means Jobs provides funding to train their current employees. They can leverage public funds to send employees to a Tech Elevator coding bootcamp so they return to the company with needed and forward-thinking software development skills. Companies should reach out to Tech Elevator to discuss their training needs and then apply directly to OMJ for an incumbent worker training grant.
Build your company, one team member at a time!
Government-funded programs like these provide useful, cost-effective ways for companies to upskill their employees. This builds a company’s overall talent pool, and it rewards long-time employees while providing opportunities for upskilling people from underrepresented backgrounds.
Above, we’ve listed just a few regional ways to work with government funds, and we encourage anyone interested to look into options near them. You can always reach out to us for help!
