Joe Erickson

Curriculum Developer

Prior to Tech Elevator I was...

working from home, doing consulting work for businesses all over the US.

The students at Tech Elevator...

are excited and dedicated to learning broadly and deeply about what we're teaching.

The best part of my day is...

when I get deeply into a topic a student is interested in and I see the joy they get from catching a glimpse into this vast world of computer programming.

Joe Erickson has been a professional programming polyglot for nearly 20 years. He's developed full-stack web-based applications for clients in Ruby, Perl, C++, Java, PHP, Python, JavaScript, Erlang, shell scripts and more. He started his career at a couple of small web design shops in Akron, OH, building web applications for companies like Roadway and Goodyear and has been hooked ever since. After working at Sterling Jewelers and FirstEnergy building billing and outage websites, he moved on to consulting work and worked from his home office and the local Panera Bread for the last six years.

At every job he's been at, Joe has always had a role in mentoring junior developers, whether that was getting newly hired developers up to speed on Java or teaching lunch-and-learn classes about the latest Ruby framework. Joe also tutored a student from no programming knowledge to getting them a job at a local company as a junior developer. After that, he had the bug for teaching and was happy to join Tech Elevator to move that passion to a professional capacity.
